As an experienced health and well-being scholar and practitioner, Laura is committed to developing healthy learning and working environments by working collaboratively to design data-informed programs, develop policies and create and promote health-enhancing social and physical environments where individuals and teams can thrive in communities dedicated to personal and institutional learning, growth and community engagement. 

She combines extensive training in physical health sciences and human behavior with years of experience in the health, fitness and wellness industry to lead engaging and energetic training and education sessions.  Her approach blends tried and true teachings from the ancients with evidence-based base practices in health and medicine to create meaning-filled modern and accessible ways to take ownership of your health. 

ACSM-certified Exercise is Medicine, ACE-certified Health Coach, ACE-certified Medical Exercise Specialist, and ACE-certified Group Fitness Instructor. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the Wisconsin School of Business, a master’s degree in Exercise and Wellness from Arizona State University, and a Ph.D. in Health Promotion, Education & Behavior from the University of South Carolina.

Q&A with Laura Rooney

Q. How long have you been a yoga and fitness instructor?
A. Over 20 years! I can hardly believe it some days – I just cannot get enough, I guess!

Q. What areas do you specialize in?
A.  I specialize in medical exercise, health and habit coaching, and investigating the psycho-physical practices of yoga through tools and techniques of moving, breathing, thinking, and feeling.

Q. What can a new student expect?
A.  A warm welcome, thoughtful sequencing, and skillful instruction – all wrapped up in a bit of humor, some hard work, and well-earned rest! 

Q. What are your current wellness goals and how are you addressing them?
A. My personal and professional interests revolve around longevity – creating a personal plan and taking actions to optimize lifespan and health span

Q. What is your favorite beautiful spot in Milwaukee?
A. Hard question … I love the lakefront.  While I am not a super fan of going into the water always, I crave sharing water’s companionship almost every day.

Q. What is your favorite place to eat in Milwaukee?
A. I don’t know if I have a specific place, but I have a hard time turning down brunch! (wanna go? *wink*)

Q. What are your top three favorite things to do/hobbies?
A. Walk/Hike.  Read.  Cook.

Q. What do you do to de-stress?
A. Walk.  It’s pretty much the answer to everything.
